Threads, Folds, & Rabbit Holes by Kristy Deetz
“Threads, Folds, and Rabbit Holes” is an exhibition of industrial jacquard weavings based on images from “Through the Veil” and “Holidays Unfolding” painting series by Kristy Deetz. The multi-layered process of the paintings depicting illusionistically rendered fabric and patterns with embroidery lead her to explore the complex threads of industrial jacquard weavings that add another visual and conceptual layer to process and product. Translating images, slowly painted by hand, into a potentially mass-produced product that simulates slow work wrought by hand is amusing, mesmerizing, troubling, and a symptom of our times.
This exhibit is on display in the Langer Gallery on the lower level. Accessible via stairs or lift. Free and open to the public!
Along with writer/scholar, Edward Risden (pen name Edward S. Louis), Kristy Deetz has published two books, “The Singular Adventures of Rabbit and Kitty Boy” and “Holidays Unfolding: The Continuing Adventures of Rabbit and Kitty Boy”. Risden creates stories in response to Deetz’s two painting series.
