Listen: In Minot, North Dakota today, somebody dreamed up a sandwich that contains the entire history of Thanksgiving dinner, squashed between two pieces of bread. Everything that has ever lived and died to make a proper November feast – the turkey, the stuffing, even that red jellied stuff your aunt brings – now exists simultaneously in the same space-time coordinate at Magic City Hoagies.
So it goes.
Down the street at the Blue Rider, patrons are scratching little pieces of paper like archaeologists, hoping to unearth evidence of free drinks. Seven dollars gets you a beer and something called Fernet, which I suspect is what Tralfamadorians drink when they’re feeling philosophical about the nature of time.
Meanwhile, at The Starving Rooster (a name that seems wonderfully apocalyptic), they’re serving Moscow Mules for five dollars. I’ve never understood why we put perfectly good vodka in copper cups, but then again, I’ve never understood why we put perfectly good humans in wars either.
