In these times of strife and division, it brings no small measure of comfort to witness how our fellow citizens gather in fellowship around the simple pleasures of sustenance and song. At the establishment known as the Blue Rider, a minstrel by the name of Sammy QaDan, accompanied by his band of Second Hand Smokers, shall this evening lift spirits without burden to the purse, as there is no fee for admission.
I did recently observe that the Prairie Sky Breads has contrived a most interesting combination – beef dressed with what they term “pico de gallo,” a preparation which, I am told, originates from our neighbors to the south. While some may view such innovations with skepticism, I am reminded that our nation thrives on the marriage of the familiar with the novel.
And speaking of unions, the Magic City Hoagies has assembled what they call “The Pilgrim” – a harmonious gathering of turkey, dressing, and cranberries, bound together as one upon a roll. In these small things, dear friends, we find our common ground.
