The sultry July air weighs heavy upon Minot, yet the town bustles with a curious energy. At the Northwest Arts Center, an exhibition titled “ALL • NULL” beckons the contemplative soul. Here, the creations of man stand in stark contrast to the raw beauty of Nature herself. As I wandered through the gallery, I found myself particularly drawn to the works of Walter Piehl, whose brushstrokes seem to capture the very essence of our fleeting existence.
Later, seeking sustenance, I chanced upon a peculiar establishment called Magic City Hoagies. Their featured fare, the “Jalapeño PoPPer,” is a concoction that would surely bewilder Emerson with its complexity. Yet, on this day of simplicity, I opted instead for a humble paper bag lunch in the shade of an old oak. There, I pondered the wisdom of living deliberately, far from the maddening crowd and its insatiable appetite for novelty.
