Down at Magic City Hoagies, they’re peddling some concoction called the Jalapeño PoPPer. A curious blend of chicken and spice, bacon and cream cheese – a culinary Frankenstein’s monster that speaks to our modern desperation for novelty. I’d sooner sip whiskey and contemplate the void, but to each their own madness in this heat.
Meanwhile, the university theater mocks the gods with their “Disaster!” musical. As if our daily lives weren’t absurd enough, now we must sing and dance through fictional calamities. And at the fairgrounds, Sawyer Brown will strum their guitars and howl into the indifferent sky, their melodies carried away on the hot prairie wind. Such is life in Minot – a ceaseless parade of distraction from the brutal truth of our existence.
